Mission of the Multicultural Students League

MSL espouses the idea that all people's socioeconomic, geographic, ethnic, religious, and educational experiences and perspectives contribute to the richness of the Villanova community. We believe that indiscriminate amiability can develop through the interaction and appreciation of community diversity, not merely the tolerance of difference. To this end, MSL embraces an all-inclusive mindset, emphasizing unitas as the foundational essence with which to facilitate programming. In doing this, we will attempt to guide students in a manner fashioned to promote the holistic development of the entire individual. We advocate three broad goals in order to effectively partake of this primary mission.

First, is helping new members of the community become fully acclimated and prepared to partake of leadership positions in our community here at Villanova. In the summer, incoming freshmen are given the opportunity to attend our annual Building Bridges to Success Retreat. Dozens of incoming students are given the opportunity to meet existing student leaders, faculty, staff and administrative leaders in a comfortable setting. During the subsequent fall semester, these students should be familiar with campus and any additional tools that will aid leadership potential.

Second, is fostering an authentic sense of community among the many different cultures and peoples on campus. Ethnic, religious, racial, and lifestyle varieties are encouraged to interact with each other through the existing Villanova community. As MSL, we support the University's mission to become a community committed to diversity, regardless of social group or other designations.

Our third goal is a commitment to advocacy amongst our peers.  Our world is increasingly interconnected, and an inevitable consequence of this interconnectedness is the association of once distant peoples with one another. Helping to construct a community where students can develop mutual respect and understanding for one another, along with a diversity of ideas, with an emphasis on unitas, will be the impetus for progression for the Multicultural Students League of Villanova University.
